Review: House of Blues, Foundation Room - Free
First things first, this girl can SING! Boston born singer-songwriter Mieka Pauley showed up with her band, The Mieka Canon, and dropped an explosive set on an intimate
gathering at the Foundation Room. Mieka's smokey vocals and infectious charisma carried the crowd away from the rainy night toward a sanctuary of warm, bluesy oblivion. Now don't get me wrong, her songs are not of the cheerful uplifting breed. In fact, songs like "Your a marked man" and "We're all gonna die," suggest a dark spirit lives inside this young singer. But what we saw, or rather felt, was the fire and passion of her soul. And believe me, as someone who is all too jaded by musicians who get by on a look and a schtick, it felt GOOD. If you live in the midwest you might know what I mean, as The Mieka Canon just finished a two-week tour that ended at the Rock Island Studio, where they recorded a killer set for DayTrotter.com. Those tracks, along with their latest self-produced EP "From the Mouth of Paris" are obviously available online. If that appropriately whets your appetite, keep your ears open and catch them at venue near you. Hallelujah!
